Connexus offered its first Dialup service in 1989, and whilst most customers are converting to Broadband, Dialup remains a useful service for applications such as DSL Backup and Remote Access.
Through Connexus’ Australia-wide network, Dialup services are available for the cost of a local call from anywhere within Australia.
A dialup connection is perfect when travelling and as a backup to your ADSL or SDSL service. It includes optional matching of IP addresses, which allows your mail servers to keep operating through the dialup connection. This way, your business will never be off line.
Connexus supports Dialup connections using either modem (up to 56 K) or ISDN (64 K). ISDN is digital service which provides a 64 K data channel in both directions. In comparison, a traditional modem connection offers a maximum upload speed of 28 K. Additionally, the digital nature of ISDN means the latency—the time it takes for data to travel the connection—is significantly faster and much better suited to business applications.
| Application | Connexus Solution |
|---|---|
| Internet user who cannot access DSL technologies but needs a reliable internet connection for e-mail and web browsing | Connexus Business Dialup—56 K modem option |
| A business which uses DSL or Fibre and would like a backup connection in the case of a DSL or Fibre fault | Connexus ISDN |
| A business with a group of staff who travel regularly and need internet access ‘on-the-go’ | Connexus Business Dialup—Group Accounts |
Connexus will provide a phone number as well as username and password. The customer is required to provide a modem and phone line for using the service. Call charges are the customer’s responsibility.
This option is for customers who wish to connect via ISDN from a router connected to the customer’s LAN. Connexus will provide a phone number as well as a username and password. Connexus recommends a Cisco 803 ISDN router, or alternatively, a WIC module for a Cisco 1800/2800 series router.
ISDN services are required at the customer premises for connection to the router. Each ISDN service is capable of supporting two concurrent ISDN calls for a total of 128 K (2 × 64 K). Call charges are the customer’s responsibility.
